The
purpose of the missions program of Inter-City Baptist Church is to honor God
by making and maturing disciples among all nations who are becoming like the
Lord Jesus Christ. We firmly believe that the missionary task is to make disciples,
not just to evangelize. The major goal of all ICBC missionary activity is the
establishment of long-term discipleship that results in an indigenous and self-perpetuating
church movement. This includes a focus on the spread of the Word through well-trained
preachers who do the work of an evangelist, as well as the establishment of
local churches. In summary, the goal of the ICBC missions program is the planting
of indigenous, reproducing churches.
The primary mandate for our missionaries is to plant churches. The secondary
mandate is for them to assist in church planting by: (1) educating pastors to
be church planters and (2) supplying necessary support for church planters and
church planting efforts. Because we believe that the Great Commission demands
the continual expansion of the mission endeavor to the unreached regions and
unreached peoples of the world, we will give priority to reaching these regions.
We believe it necessary to categorize missions into two facets: pioneer missions
and growth missions. Pioneer missions focuses on planting churches in new regions
and reaching new peoples. Growth missions focuses on the strength, stability,
and expansion of existing works in countries with an existing evangelical witness.
It is our desire to aggressively explore the needs of the unreached regions
and peoples of the world and take the gospel of Jesus Christ to them.
